Beating the cost of teen auto insurance

Most of our children count the days in anticipation of when they can drive a car. Most parents also hold the same opinion, but for defensive reasons. On one hand it means lack of restrictions and excitement for the kids rather than a necessity, while it may mean disturbed moments and loss of finance for the parents. Take note that the anxieties of the parents are not only legitimate but paramount because kids are more prone to accidents. Thus if you allow your kids to drive, the amount you are liable to as premium will also swell up. If you think of adding your kids to the auto insurance list, then think of the following:

Take a look at his or her progress booklet. This may not be directly related to insurance, but most insurers consider it a requirement for bringing down the amount of premium. A good number of insurers will lower the cost of premium for teenagers with at least a B grade in school. They take this to mean some form of high emotional maturity.

Also make an effort your children go through a test drive. This is to bring out the aptitude or capacity to better handle cars.

If you have more than one car, keep your mind on which one they drive. It may be a wise decision if you let them drive the less expensive one or that with the lowest premium. Alternatively, you can ask you insurer to allocate your kids to one specific car and once this is done, make a decision never to permit them to drive nothing more than that, even in cases of urgent situations. An additional option may be to send him or her to school using a public bus. Ask from your insurers; premiums are usually bargained when your kids have to use the public transport to school. You may also decide to take them off the policy if they have to attend school at least a hundred miles away from home.

It may also be worthwhile to insure the car in the kid’s name when it is appropriate to do so. You will be compelling him to accept liability for damage caused to others by him and he equally has to bear the cost of premium. As grownups, they may have to device their own methods on auto insurance to save their finances. They may even prefer not to drive because in spite of everything, less driving involves the least chance of causing damage.
